Climate Services Users Forum (CSUF)

The South Asian Climate Outlook Forum (SASCOF) was established in 2009 and is coordinated by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It covers Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; each country hosts the Forum on rotation. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has been supporting South Asian nations in conducting the South Asian Seasonal Climate Outlook Forum (SASCOF) since 2010.The objective of the forum is to prepare consensus seasonal climate information on regional scale that provides a consistent basis for preparing national level outlooks.

The SASCOF platforms also serve to interact with user sector to understand and enhance the use of climate information as envisaged by Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).The CSUF special sessions of SASCOFs focus on interface with users from the Water, Agriculture, Disaster Risk Reduction and Health sector to interpret seasonal climate information and understand their specific needs with a view to further customizes climate information.

Rainfall and temperatures during the months from October to February are of crucial importance to key sectors like agriculture, water, energy and health in the South Asian Region. Winter SASCOF’s were started in 2015 keeping in view of the importance of winter seasonal climate to these key user sectors.

SASCOF-30

SASCOF-30 (Thirtieth Session of SASCOF) for the winter season (DJF) will be held via video conferencing. All participants are encouraged to exchange views on current climate factors and discuss the outlook of climate prediction over South Asia for the upcoming winter season December to January 2024-25 (DJF 2024-25).

It is expected that the forum will provide a detailed analysis of the South Asian climate state and give an update of the seasonal climate outlook for the upcoming winter season i.e. DJF 2024- 25 over the South Asia region.

SASCOF-29

An online session of SASCOF-29 was tentatively scheduled during 25-26 September 2024. The associated Climate Services User Forum (CSUF) was scheduled on 3 October 2024. The Regional Climate Centre (RCC), Pune of India Meteorological Department (IMD) jointly organized the meeting with Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early- warning System for Asia and Africa (RIMES), UK Met Office (UKMO) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO). 

The CSUF session will focus on interface with users from the various application sectors to interpret seasonal climate information and understand their specific needs with a view to further customizing climate information.

SASCOF-28

The SASCOF-28 is scheduled to be held during 29-30th April &1st May 2024 in Pune, India. The Regional Climate Center (RCC), Pune of India Meteorological Department (IMD), UK Met Office (UKMO), Regional Integrated Multi-hazard Early-warning System for Asia and Africa (RIMES) and WMO (World Meteorological Organization) shall be involved in organizing this session of SASCOF and shall provide technical support.

SASCOF-28 will prepare a climate outlook for the 2024 summer monsoon season covering the months from June to September. NMHSs from SASCOF member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as well as several regional and global experts will jointly prepare this consensus outlook.
